- Refined Voice (30 minutes total): Optional voice sessions after setup deepen the voice. Recognizably you to anyone who knows your voice.
- True Voice (60 minutes total): Add more short interview sessions from the dashboard. It is still the voice companion, not a live call with you. See how the companion answers.
- Signature Voice : coming soon.
- Voice is built only from your interview sessions, never from real conversations with your loved one
Your KindredMind voice presence is built from a 20-second voice recording. Your Initial Voice is ready right away, and it deepens into your Refined Voice as you add optional voice sessions. You can add deeper training sessions any time from your dashboard. Real conversations between the companion and your loved one are never used for training.
It sounds like you, because it uses your own voice, shared with your permission. It's not you on the line, and it never says it is. But to the person who loves you, it sounds like home. See how the companion answers.
Start your voice setupWhy voice matters in dementia care
When a person with dementia calls a family caregiver, they're not calling for information. They're calling for the specific, irreplaceable comfort of a familiar voice. The sound of you, not a nurse, not a care aide, not a generic companion, you. The voice they've known for 50 years. The voice that has always meant safety.
Generic voice companion doesn't work for this. The moment your loved one hears a voice that doesn't sound like you, the reassurance collapses. The call ends without the comfort it was seeking. And twenty minutes later, the phone rings again.
This is why familiar voice technology is not a nice-to-have feature in KindredMind. It is the entire thing. Without it, we're just another phone system. With it, we're something genuinely new: a way for your voice to be present even when you can't be.
To understand more about why dementia patients are so focused on reaching their family caregiver, our piece on dementia separation anxiety explains the neuroscience behind the repetitive calling.
How your voice presence works
Your voice presence is built in two clear phases. guided setup gets you running. Optional guided voice sessions from the Voice tab deepen your companion. Deeper interview sessions you can add any time from the dashboard let you deepen it whenever you want.
guided setup, 20 seconds
guided setup gathers the essentials about your loved one in 20 seconds. You make a brief voice capture in your own words. It captures your warmth, cadence, and natural pauses. It becomes your Initial Voice.
Your Initial Voice goes live right away
As soon as Session 1 finishes, your Initial Voice is ready. The next call to your loved one's KindredMind number is answered in your voice. Your Initial Voice captures the fundamental qualities of how you sound and is already meaningful on a phone call.
Optional sessions deepen your voice
Your optional guided voice sessions from the Voice tab, each about 7 minutes, give your companion more of your voice and more of your stories. When your recordings add up to 30 minutes, your companion becomes your Refined Voice. Real conversations between the companion and your loved one are never used at any point.
Deeper interview sessions, build out the voice
From your dashboard, the Voice tab lets you add more guided voice sessions whenever you want, to deepen the voice and grow the knowledge base (with details typed or uploaded from the dashboard). You can preview your current voice at any time to hear exactly what your loved one hears.
Before and after your voice presence
Without a voice presence
- A friendly voice has its own name. It is not a family member speaking live. See how the companion answers.
- The call fails to provide comfort, they hang up more anxious than before
- They call back in minutes because the need was never met
- You end up answering anyway, from the middle of dinner or a meeting
- Every missed call carries guilt because you know it wasn't handled well
With your KindredMind voice presence
- Your loved one hears your voice, warm, familiar, exactly as they remember it
- The call provides a familiar-voice conversation; some callers may find that reassuring, while responses vary.
- Emotional responses vary. Call frequency may change over time, but no reduction or emotional outcome is guaranteed.
- You can be elsewhere while supported calls are handled under the active service and account conditions; available summaries can help you stay informed.
- A configured call may include a caregiver-provided phrase, Configured calls can use a caregiver-approved voice and family-provided phrases where supported; the service does not guarantee a particular outcome.
Frequently asked questions
Does it actually sound like me, or does it sound like an AI?
When your recordings add up to 30 minutes, your companion becomes your Refined Voice.
What if I don't want to record? Can I skip the voice setup?
You can skip the voice recording during onboarding and add it later. KindredMind will use a warm, neutral voice in the interim. We do strongly recommend completing the voice setup, it's the feature families consistently say makes the biggest difference. You can return to it from your dashboard at any time.
Is my voice data private? Who can access it?
Your voice recordings and companion are stored securely and encrypted with AES-256, the same standard used by banks and healthcare providers. We do not sell your voice data or use it to train any general AI models. Call transcripts generated during your calls are also encrypted at rest and kept for 90 days, with a choice of anywhere from 1 to 365 days. We never ask for your loved one's full legal name or date of birth. The only voice audio we ever process for training is yours, captured during your short interview sessions, and real conversations between the companion and your loved one are never used for training. You can delete your voice companion and all associated recordings at any time from your account settings. For full details, read our privacy and security page.
How does my voice companion get better over time?
Your companion deepens whenever you add an optional Alex session from the Voice tab in your dashboard. You can add another short session whenever you want, to capture more of your range, your stories, or how your voice has changed. Real conversations between the companion and your loved one are never used. Your dashboard shows your current voice status and lets you preview it at any time.
Can I update my voice companion if my voice changes?
Yes. You can record a fresh interview session with Alex at any time from the Voice tab to refresh your voice presence. If you'd like to reset and start completely fresh, that option is available in settings.
Is familiar voice technology ethical in this context?
Your own voice is shared with your permission, and it never says it is you. The family caregiver learns how it answers before setup. See how the companion answers.
Can more than one family member build their own voice presence?
No. We do not offer a shared plan for several family voices. See how the companion answers.
How your voice gets better over time, and why that matters
Your voice companion does not have to stop improving when onboarding ends. The Voice tab in your dashboard is one of the things families most often mention when they check back in weeks later.
Your Initial Voice is ready after a 20-second voice recording. Optional guided voice sessions from the Voice tab deepen the voice. It captures the fundamental qualities of your voice: your warmth, your cadence, the emotional tone that makes you sound like you. For many families, the result is already remarkably close from day one.
When your recordings add up to 30 minutes, your companion becomes your Refined Voice.
That separation matters for two reasons. First, it keeps your loved one's calls completely private. Second, it means your companion is learning only from you, in a calm setting where you are speaking your best, not from a worried call where your voice may not be at its most natural.
From the dashboard, the Voice tab lets you add more guided voice sessions whenever you want. Each session deepens the voice and grows the knowledge base, so the calls in month two can sound a little more like you than the calls in week one, on your terms.
Your voice data is handled with the same care as everything else KindredMind processes. We keep your recordings so we can build your voice and make it better over time. We delete them when you delete your voice or your account. Your voice data does not train any general AI model, it is not sold or shared, and it is permanently deleted when your account closes. See our privacy commitments for full details.
It sounds like you, because it uses your own voice, shared with your permission. It's not you on the line, and it never says it is. But to the person who loves you, it sounds like home. See how the companion answers.
Rather not use your own voice? Choose our companion voice instead. It still knows everything about them. You can switch to your own voice anytime.
