Accessibility Statement
KindredMind exists because one family needed a way to stay in touch with a mom whose world was changing fast. Accessibility is not a feature we tacked on. It is the reason we built this.
Our commitment
KindredMind was built for a family member living with dementia. Accessibility is not a feature we added later. It is the reason this product exists.
We are committed to making both the KindredMind voice companion (the phone experience) and the KindredMind caregiver dashboard (the web experience) usable by people with a wide range of abilities, including people living with dementia, low vision, low hearing, limited mobility, and cognitive differences.
Voice companion accessibility
The KindredMind voice companion is designed to be usable by people with a wide range of cognitive and sensory needs. Speaking pace defaults roughly fifteen percent slower than natural conversation, with caregiver-adjustable settings for slower or faster pacing. Outgoing audio is loudness-normalised so volume stays consistent across calls, which accommodates age-related hearing loss. Calls work on any standard analog telephone, including amplified handsets and big-button photo dial phones.
If your loved one uses an assistive listening device or has specific accessibility needs we have not addressed here, please contact us at hello@kindredmind.care so we can help.
Caregiver dashboard accessibility
The KindredMind caregiver dashboard at app.kindredmind.care is built with accessibility in mind.
Our target standards include:
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA, which covers contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and clear focus indicators.
- Standards specific to North America for digital accessibility, including the Americans with Disabilities Act guidance for web content and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Specific features we have implemented in the dashboard include:
- Keyboard navigation throughout the dashboard. Every interactive element can be reached and operated using the Tab, Enter, and arrow keys.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element so keyboard users always know where they are.
- Semantic HTML with proper heading hierarchy and landmark regions, so screen reader users get a clear structural overview of each page.
- Alt text on meaningful images, with decorative images marked as such for screen readers.
- Form labels associated with their inputs, with clear error messages that explain how to fix the problem.
- Color contrast ratios that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA on body text and interactive elements.
- Resizable text. The dashboard remains usable when text is enlarged in browser settings.
- ARIA labels and roles where standard HTML semantics are not enough to convey meaning.
- A simple, low-cognitive-load layout. We have deliberately resisted adding visual noise and unnecessary controls.
Cognitive accessibility for caregivers
Caregivers of people with dementia are often exhausted, sleep-deprived, and emotionally overwhelmed. We design the caregiver dashboard with that reality in mind. Specifically:
- Plain language. We avoid clinical jargon and unnecessary technical terminology.
- Short forms. The intake form takes about 15 minutes and is split into clearly labeled steps.
- Progress indicators that show where you are and what is left to complete.
- Predictable navigation. The same sidebar appears on every dashboard page in the same place.
- Safe defaults. If you stop in the middle of a setup step, your progress is saved automatically.
- Clear, single-purpose buttons. We avoid menus inside menus and ambiguous wording.
Phone setup support
If you or your loved one needs help with the setup, you can call or text us at +1 (437) 367-0960. A real person will help you walk through everything step by step. We will not rush you. We will take however long you need.
If a phone call is hard for you, you can email us at hello@kindredmind.care and we will help you set up the service over email instead.
Multilingual access
The KindredMind voice companion supports 15 languages: 12 with full quality (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Italian, Polish, Russian, Mandarin, German, Korean, and Hindi) and 3 additional languages in beta (Tagalog, Ukrainian, Greek). For families whose loved one speaks a language other than English at home, the companion can be set to respond in that language using the family caregiver's voice. This is an important accessibility feature for first-generation immigrant families and for people with dementia whose comprehension reverts to their childhood language as the disease progresses.
The caregiver dashboard is currently available in English. French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese versions are planned.
Compatibility
The dashboard is tested with the current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, and is tested for use with the screen readers VoiceOver (macOS and iOS) and NVDA (Windows). If you use an assistive technology that is not on this list and encounter problems, please let us know and we will work to fix them.
Known limitations and ongoing work
We are not perfect. Areas we are actively working on include:
- More comprehensive testing with the JAWS screen reader.
- A high-contrast theme for the caregiver dashboard.
- A simplified dashboard view for caregivers who only need the basics.
- Recorded video walkthroughs of the setup process with closed captions and audio descriptions.
If you find an accessibility barrier in the service, please tell us. We will fix it.

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 2 business days and to resolve issues as quickly as possible. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate to the relevant accessibility authority in your jurisdiction. In Ontario, this is the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility. In the United States, you may file a complaint with the Department of Justice under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
